Difference between Full Frame and Insert Windows
Read more...If your current windows have aluminum frames, an insert (pocket) window application is likely the best option. If you have wood frame windows, consideration should always be given to both full frame and insert windows.
With an insert window, the sash are replaced, but the existing frame remains. Insert windows allow the homeowner to get the latest window performance energy savings, features and technology while retaining the original frame, exterior trim and interior casing. This is a good option when the window frames are in excellent condition.
Full frame replacement windows are similar to new construction installation, while providing the latest technology, performance and energy efficiency. The entire frame and sash are removed resulting in weather tightness and greater glass area. Removing the entire frame eliminates the risk of future repairs and maintenance resulting from rotting wood window frames. This is a good option when the window frames are deteriorating.
